Modern China’s Internationalization and its Legacies

Postgraduate Workshop University of Bristol, 11-12 January 2013

The aim of this workshop is to bring together postgraduates and early-career academics from a variety of disciplines to explore a broad range of themes relating to Modern China, its internationalization and the legacies of this process.

Participants are encouraged to think broadly about on several themes: the rise of modern China from the late-18th to early-19th centuries; the plurality of actors in China’s internationalization, both organizations and individuals, domestic and foreign; the global extent to everyday application of China’s integration into a multiplicity of economic, political, cultural and ideological networks; as well as the legacies of this process through to the modern day.

Keynote speakers are Prof. Henrietta Harrison (University of Oxford) and Prof. Odd Arne Westad (London School of Economics).
