Information for students at BICC Minimize
The "Oxford course" at Beida in 2009 will run from 22 June to 17 July

On this page you can download details of the BICC language conventions, detailing the standards on which you will be tested at the end of your first and second years.

Information for students studying language in China.
BICC encourages students to study language at Beida, where we have strong institutional links. BICC's central administration will help to arrange this with you. Should students wish to undertake language study elsewhere, it will be the responsibility of their home institutions to make all arrangements for them and ensure that they will be taught to a sufficient standard to pass the BICC exams.

Applying to study at Beida
information for the language training courses at Beida can be found by following this link. Application forms can be found here.  Normally we only arrange for our students to stay in the campus for two weeks. During that period they should be able to find their own accommodation arrangement.

The deadline for applications to study at Beida from September 2009 is June 30, 2009. Please ensure you spplication form is sent to Dan Holloway before this deadline. The fee for this course is currently 13,600 RMB per semester (it is a two semester course), with a 350 RMB applictaion fee. Please be aware that exchange rates are subject to extreme and last minute variation. You should ensure that you have applied for your Difficult Language Training allowance from your local institution in good time. The fees for the course will usually be withheld by your local institution from the total of your DLT.

Your time at Beida
There is a Handbook on studying at Beida which has been created and updated by the Oxford 2nd year undergraduates. It can be viewed here.

BICC Studentships for 2010 Minimize

From the start of the 2010-11 academic year, four 1-year postgraduate studentships for Masters students in Chinese Studies will be available through the British Inter-University China Centre (BICC). They will be available to students on the MA in Contemporary China at the University of Manchester. The studentships will pay full Home/EU fees and maintenance (currently £13,200 per annum) for the duration of the studentship (fees only for EU students unless they meet residency requirements as laid down in the ESRC’s guidelines), along with a Researh Training and Support Grant of £400.

Funded through the Language-Based Area Studies initiative, BICC is a cross-institutional research and teaching centre, which joins together the expertise of the Universities of Oxford, Bristol and Manchester in Chinese studies. These studentships are open to Home/EU students only (and eligibility for the awards follows research council residency rules).   Both students who already have an offer of a place in hand or who still intend to apply for admission in 2010 will be eligible for funding.

Students will be expected, by the end of their first year of study, to have reached the level of Chinese language proficiency laid down in BICC’s language conventions. These can be downloaded from the sidebar.

You can download the applictaion form, along with notes on eligibility from the sidebar. If you need an alternative format, please e-mail daniel.holloway@area.ox.ac.uk
